The window for renewing your Qualified Person (QP) status is opening soon.

Ahead of time, you may wish to begin to prepare your supporting documentation.

As a reminder, this includes: 

  • Confirmation of your Chartership status 
  • Up-to-date QP Continuing Professional Development (CPD) documentation.

CL:AIRE publishes updated SuRF-UK framework document

CL:AIRE is delighted to publish the updated SuRF-UK framework document titled: A framework for assessing the sustainability of soil and groundwater remediation. This update provides a comprehensive approach to assessing the sustainability of soil and groundwater remediation. It integrates environmental, social, and economic considerations to optimise how remediation projects contribute positively to sustainable development. This document is an update to the original framework document that was published in 2010 (which has now been withdrawn).  The updated framework is available to download free of charge here:

CL:AIRE publishes new DoW CoP bulletin on a staged declaration approach to MMPs on HS2 Align

CL:AIRE is pleased to announce the publication of a new DoW CoP bulletin (DoW CoP 2), Experience of using an MMP framework and staged declaration approach to MMPs on HS2 Align.

This bulletin describes the use of a framework and staged declaration approach to Materials Management Plans (MMPs) within the context of the CL:AIRE Definition of Waste: Development Industry Code of Practice (DoW CoP). This approach was taken on part of the High Speed 2 (HS2) infrastructure development which is being managed by the Align joint venture. Second International Soil Reuse Forum Meeting 

CL:AIRE was delighted to attend the second annual meeting of the International Soil Reuse Forum (ISRF) in Brussels, Belgium, hosted by Grondbank. The meeting, held on 30 September, included colleagues from BRGM in France, SIKB in the Netherlands, and several guest speakers from Belgium and the European Commission.  Read more here.

NBF seeks deputy chair nominations

The National Brownfield Forum (NBF) is a knowledge sharing initiative administered by CL:AIRE on behalf of 20+ public and private sector members. The NBF is designed to support the sustainable reuse of land in the UK by bringing together a broad range of policy makers, practitioners, researchers, and non-Government Organisations. The chair is currently Darren Beriro with Liz Hart SiLC CSci incoming in 2026. The next deputy chair is now being sought, to start in Spring 2026, taking on the chair role in Spring 2029. The position is open to anyone supportive of the NBF mission, and they must also belong to a NBF member organisation. IAQM publishes good practice on air quality monitoring for brownfield projects

The Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM) has published, Good Practice on Air Quality Monitoring for Brownfield Projects, which is freely available to download here.

UKRI announces large-scale funding opportunities to tackle big environmental science questions

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has recently announced financial support for innovative, large-scale and complex projects that tackle big environmental science questions and have the potential to produce world leading research. UKRI welcomes multi and interdisciplinary research predominantly within the Natural Environment Research Council's remit, delivered by collaborative teams. Further information is available here. Closing date 26 February 2026.

LPDF publishes report on Grey Belt

The Land, Planning and Development Federation (LPDF) has recently published a report on the impact of grey belt planning policy. It is available to download here.

GPVS audit report 2024 published

CL:AIRE has recently published the results of the 2024 Gas Protection Verification Accreditation Scheme (GPVS) audit. The report is available to download here.

Water4All launches transnational call for research and innovation projects

Water4All has recently launched a Joint Transnational Call (JTC) for research and innovation projects on “Water and Health”. The JTC is launched in the framework of the future European partnership and will support research and innovation projects aimed at addressing key challenges related to the link between water and human health, including water quality, contaminants, and water treatment technologies.

UKRI announces funding opportunities through Eureka GlobalStars Japan 2026

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has recently announced that UK organisations can now apply for funding to collaborate on industrial research projects with partners in Eureka member countries and Japan. Further information is available here. The call for submissions closes on 21 January 2026.
