The guiding principles documents are a package of guidance that replaced the ’Environment Agency requirements for land contamination reports’. They consist of:

- GPLC2 - FAQs, technical information, detailed advice and references (PDF, 1.6MB)
- GPLC3 - Reporting checklists (PDF, 1MB)
The guiding principles are generic guidance.
As explained in GPLC1, they cover some of the main areas of interaction with the Environment Agency, but it is also critical that you involve local authority officers in any project. Local authority contaminated land officers lead on most land contamination matters and will have their own requirements and guidance.
