The Environment Agency has updated its 2017 report Derivation and use of soil screening values for assessing ecological risks. The report provides guidelines for screening the risks to soils from chemicals released through the landspreading of waste-derived materials. The 2022 update corrects the evaluations for polychlorinated alkanes (medium chain-length), hexachlorobenzene, perfluorooctanoic acid, perfluorooctane sulphonate and triclosan.
The soil screening values developed through this project will help the Environment Agency to better review the technical suitability of landspreading proposals submitted by an operator for a wider range of chemicals.
The report and a spreadsheet tool, which allows the screening values to be adjusted for site-specific soil properties, are available to view and download here >>> https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/soil-screening-values-for-assessing-ecological-risk
