CL:AIRE and the Environment Agency are pleased to announce work has begun on a full redraft of the Definition of Waste: Development Industry Code of Practice (DoW CoP).
This will involve a full revision and redraft of the main document. It will incorporate the changes needed to ensure that the document is clear, legally robust and allows the regulator to take enforcement action when necessary. It will also provide the clarity needed around what materials and sites are within scope of the DoW CoP. The work should ensure the long-term future of the initiative which has seen huge success since its launch back in 2009.
The Environment Agency also intends to publish a new standalone Regulatory Position Statement setting out its enforcement position with regard to the DoW CoP.
The above work will be overseen jointly through a DoW CoP Task Group set up specifically for the purpose. This will preserve the joint regulator - industry development model which has proved so successful.
As the regulator within Wales, Natural Resources Wales are aware of the ongoing review which is being undertaken and are continuing to liaise with both CL:AIRE and the Environment Agency. It is anticipated that Natural Resources Wales will be part of the Task Group once established.
Further announcements will be made jointly via the CL:AIRE website, eAlert and various other media.
