April Highlights
Welcome to this months eAlert. We’re very excited to announce the publication of three new technical reports:
- Guidance on the Assessment and Monitoring of Natural Attenuation of Contaminants in Groundwater
- Guidance on Natural Source Zone Depletion
- Category 4 Screening Levels: Naphthalene
We have lots more to look forward to this year. We are hosting an Annual Chairman's Dinner in June for our Principal Members, who can now RSVP via their email invitation. We will also be holding a 25th Anniversary Celebration Event in November with our Principal and Supporter Members. We look forward to seeing many of you at these events.
We'd also like to reminder you of the Soils, Materials Recovery and Waste in Construction - SSE Workshop 19 and Mini-WASCON taking place on 14 June 2024 at the University of Greenwich.

CL:AIRE is delighted to announce the publication of two new guidance documents. Each link below will take you to a separate page to learn more about the documents and where you will be able to download them.
• Guidance on the Assessment and Monitoring of Natural Attenuation of Contaminants in Groundwater • Guidance on Natural Source Zone Depletion
Both documents were made possible thanks to Environment Agency seed funding and have been reviewed and supported by the following: Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, Scottish Environment Protection Agency and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), an agency within the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA).

CL:AIRE is delighted to publish the next Phase 2 C4SL report on naphthalene. It can be downloaded directly from the dedicated C4SL web page here.
A short webinar is available to remind people how C4SLs have been derived and the background to the project. People are encouraged to watch the webinar before reading any of the Phase 2 reports.
The C4SL project has been a collaborative industry initiative, and huge thanks must be given to the project team members that are helping on this project. The team is working hard to move more reports forward and get them ready for publication.

CL:AIRE is pleased to join with the University of Greenwich to run the 19th Soils in the South East Workshop (SSE19) on 14 June. This year the workshop is also in conjunction with ISCOWA and is a Mini-WASCON meeting. Topics for discussion include case studies involving waste and soils treatment, construction and demolition waste management, land contamination, developments in the regulation of waste, materials reuse and recovery, and the results of leading-edge research.
SSE19 is designed for developers, consultants, landowners, waste operators, regulators, and those who have an interest in using waste sustainably in the built environment.

Soils, Materials Recovery and Waste in Construction - SSE Workshop 19 and Mini-WASCON, 14 June 2024, University of Greenwich, Chatham Maritime
SSE19 is being held in association with CL:AIRE and ISCOWA. Soils in the South-East Workshop number 19 (SSE19) is designed for those who have an interest in using waste sustainably in the built environment.

This event aims to share knowledge and foster new relationships between professionals within the field of contaminated sites in the Nordic countries and Europe. It is a joint event by Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway and this year also Iceland. The topics range from PFAS to sediments over soil investigation, indoor air, digital tools, remediation to soil as a resource.
